Overview of Idea

I am leading a short residency in which 5th and 6th graders will learn about rap, and ultimately write and record their own short rap concept album. Their album will then be sold as a fundraiser for their chronically underfunded after-school program.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

A producer to create the beats, a graphic designer to do the cover art, and a sound engineer are some of the key players of this project, and as generous as they may be in donating their time to this project, they’ll still need some compensation for their time and expertise. Recording studio time and pressing albums will also probably be sizable costs in this endeavor. Not to mention the insatiable appetite for hot chips that my students have, which could easily bankrupt a teaching artist.
