Children and youth with special needs would like to enroll for music lessons. Music instructors would like to know how to teach them effectively. A music therapist will evaluate each potential student and mentor the music teacher in adaptive techniques.
Students with special needs are seeking music lessons. Some students are physically challenged (cerebral palsy for example); we would use the funds to purchase items recommended by the music therapist such as large-print music books, instruments with large keys, ways to raise wheelchairs to the proper piano-playing height.
Some students are mentally challenged (autism, Downs syndrome). The music therapist will train the music teacher in techniques that will be effective.
Enrolling students will be evaluated by the music therapist, who will make recommendations to the parent and teacher.
