Overview of Idea

Project S.P.E.A.K.: Strengthen, Proclaim, Engage, Advocate, Know aims to empower members of marginalized communities by creating a space and a platform for them to share their stories. We use testimonial theatre as a means to start important conversations and inspire audiences to further action.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

We will use the funds to start community programs in D.C. and Boston, partnering with college campuses and urban high schools. We will identify issues and campaigns important to these communities and empower them to use theatre and storytelling as an organizing tool. $5000 will help us fund small stipends for mentors and organizers; provide mini-grants for local youth with big ideas who need a means to make them happen; and pay for performance space, advertising, and supplies.
