Overview of Idea

Mural Mile is a project to install murals along Livonia Ave. (Brooklyn) from its beginning to its end. Our first mural is an all-male anti-violence initiative that was inspired by the death of Trayvon Martin but also speaks to countless young men of color who have died in the New York area.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

$500 will go to the painting supplies, which includes the paints, brushes, rollers, and trays.

$2,000 will go towards the equipment used to reach the top of the mural (scissor lift and scaffold).

$2,500 will go to the lead muralist who is from East New York. As a part of our philosophy, we try to use primarily East New York artists for our projects as a way to give economic opportunities in our neighborhood.

The creation of this mural, along with the many more being planned for, is an important step in making East New Yorkers proud of their neighborhood.

I saw this walking by... I'm from East New York...This is something that our community really needs. People don't realize all of the art there is in East New York.

the idea of using murals to challenge expression in a non-violent way seems really exciting. not to mention starting a discussion about race in a very public way... great job guys- we need more of this!
