Singing Strings: a DC after-school violin program

Overview of Idea

CHIME (Community Help In Music Education) has its dream to make music ensembles accessible to every DC student (inspired by the famous Venezuelan Sistema). This grant would help continue our two-year old after-school violin program at a Title I DC public ES, and add cello instruction to it.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

We have the space, donated violins, and 2 assistant volunteer violin instructors, carried over from last year. We need funds to replace our departed lead violin instructor, fund a cello teacher and some small-size cellos ( the cellos we have are full-size), recruit volunteer assistant teachers, and pay for needed supplies. I donate my time as ED, handling all administrative functions. We would hope in the future to also have viola and bass added to make a string orchestra.
