Overview of Idea

I'd like to teach three, five-week art classes culminating in an art show at the end of the year to students in our low-SES community, many of whom get no opportunity to experience art in their life.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

$5,000 will fund all supplies including brushes, paints and three canvases per student. Additionally, I’d like to schedule fieldtrips to local art museums and galleries, including the High Museum in Atlanta and Emory University’s Carlos Museum.

Funds will allow me to also supply students with a take-home book and small kit of art supplies – brushes, paints and canvas – to continue their work; the goal is to help students discover their own voice and creativity, to give them the courage to be brave and know themselves through art.

This class will have a measurable impact on students and will be offered at no cost to students; the grant will cover art supplies, fieldtrip admission, transportation, take-home kit and end-of-the-year art show
