Make GOOD Art Through Creative Reuse!

We would host a "Make GOOD Art Through Creative Reuse" event that engages our community to creatively reuse "good" throwaway items, workshops to demonstrate how fusing Environmental Education + Art = Creative Reuse and showcase Local "Found Art", Up-Cycle" and "Creative Reuse" Artists' art work.

The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?

We previously hosted the first ever Pepsi Refresh Creative Reuse Day and would use the funds to help pay for any required permit fees, costs for the portable restrooms, advertising and volunteer hospitality expenses and any other miscellaneous supplies/materials that may be needed to host the event.

Today more than ever, community members need to be reminded of the role we have in saving our planet, the "Make GOOD Art Through Creative Reuse" event, is a brilliant concept, reaching many individuals who want to know more about- how to reuse or how to volunteer-it’s the perfect venue for the community to learn how they can make a deference. we searched the net for this place after a manager at our local Michaels told us about it! We live in Orange County but my daughter and i were so excited to at least stop in and meet Lisa and paruse her loot! LOL ITS AWESOME!!! We reuse/recycle everything we can and use it on other projects! I wish we had one here in OC but will happily drive down to LBC to visit my dad and the Depot!!! SEE YOU SOON! I we would love to volunteer for this "Make GOOD Art Through Creative Reuse" event!!! KEEP US IN MIND! 2CALIKITTIES!

The LBDepot is a wonderful resource for the community of artists,students,kids families and helps all Reuse recycle so please vote for them! <3 Lisa and Yoshino help our community create art and keep the city beautiful through recycled materials and keep them out of landfills and give us wonderful ideas for inspiring uses and imagination to use our minds and keep them open. They are an asset of ideas and supplies and the workshops are so informative and fun. There is no need to throw away all these things that can be reused to make such brilliant quality art.Please support this local independent family green store.

The video you see posted here is from last year's "Pepsi Refresh Creative Reuse Day" where we engaged the community to make things out of Pepsi throwaway items. This was a "First Ever" event for the city of Long Beach which included free book giveaways. We also included various other organizations and non-profits to share their missions and how they "up-cycled" as well. The music was provided by the Pacific Wind Arts Recycled Drum Circle, courtesy of Trace "Tres'' Fukuhara and the Taikos were courtesy of Mr. Victor Fukuhara.

I believe by having this first ever event specifically showcasing creative reuse artists it would help bring recognition to GOOD ART created with materials that are already existing. It would also bring more attention to the importance of upcycling as well.

I'm actually never shopped here but I see the good ladies of the Depot all over Long Beach, at neighborhood meetings, community events, everywhere. I love this place! It's actually where I get most of my teaching and stuff for my Upcycling creations... . Love love love Long Beach Depot For Creative Reuse.Be ready to dig through mounds and mounds of stuff to get to the real gems... Awesome place to visit if you are looking for anything weird, strange, or just some cool pieces to do some creative art work. I loved going here for my many art pieces! This place has everything you need from recycled paper, old fabric, random little Nic-Naks!!! This is my number one place to go for recycled materials.

This is a great idea because it will bring more awareness on how many items we believe to be trash can be reused into something useful or as part of an artistic piece of work. One of the artists at The Depot creates robots out of the plastic stuff he gets from there and from the river. We all need to realize that many items are reusable and don't need to end up in our landfills and why not have fun creatively reusing these items and "Up-Cycle" them! Thank you for including this event in the challenge.

It is so important to educate the public on the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and what better way than to have a community event that inspires "reducing through creative reuse". The Depot has been serving the Southern California community for over 4 years and it continues to amaze me how whenever they "plant a seed" it truly grows! They introduced creative reuse, the art of Yarn-bombing, recycled drum circles and many other "fun art" projects all in the spirit of building unity in our community through sharing. This is very important work that the Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse is doing. I was in Long Beach yesterday and visited the Depot. I see these "depots" as a key part of the UPcycling Community as they play a role by distributing vast amounts of discarded household and office materials that charities and thrift stores will not take to DIY'rs and UPcyclers. Not to mention the classes on art and crafts they give for children. They connect community excess to those who can use it creatively. Keeping unmeasured amounts of discarded materials out of our landfills.
