Theatre Action Project uses the arts to activate academic, social and emotional development in youth. Through in-class performances, afterschool residencies and community programs, TAP Teaching Artists inspire youth to be creative artists, courageous allies, critical thinkers and confident leaders.
The Courage to Stand, TAP’s signature anti-bullying in-class residency, helps youth act as courageous leaders when faced with difficult situations, creatively expressing a message of empathy, awareness and change. Youth investigate the idea of courage and how to act as “courageous bystanders” by time travelling with Teaching Artists to explore acts of courage in the Holocaust and Civil Rights Era. The 5-day program has served 20,000 3rd-5th graders since 2001, yet as school funds for the arts dwindle, many campuses that would like to host CTS cannot afford the small amount of funds we request. $5000 would allow 300 4th graders on 3 low-income campuses to experience Courage to Stand, creating an anti-bullying standard in high-needs schools.
